Terms of Services

Transcript Shield processes your transcripts entirely in your browser, so we collect very little and promise even less fine print. These pages explain how the service works, what information we handle, and your rights when using it.

Last updated:

Use of the Service

Transcript Shield provides browser-based tools that help researchers clean transcripts and detect and redact personally identifiable information before sharing or storing that content elsewhere. You may use the service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to misuse the service, attempt to gain unauthorized access, interfere with system integrity, reverse engineer the application, or use the service in a way that could harm Transcript Shield or other users.

Account Responsibility

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when registering and to keep your account details up to date. If you suspect unauthorized use of your account, you must notify us promptly.

Your Content and Local Processing

Transcript Shield processes transcript content locally in your browser, and your transcripts are never uploaded to or stored on our servers. You retain full ownership of all transcript content you open in the application, and because that content never reaches our systems, no license to it is granted to us and none is needed for us to provide the service.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights and permissions to process any content you open in Transcript Shield, including any consent required from research participants. You agree not to use the service to process content in violation of intellectual property rights, confidentiality obligations, or applicable laws.

Configuration data you create within the service, such as workspace settings and custom dictionary terms, may be stored by us in order to provide the service across sessions and devices, and you grant us a limited license to store and process that data solely for that purpose.

Automated Detection and Its Limits

Transcript Shield uses automated systems to detect and suggest redactions for personally identifiable information. While we aim for high accuracy, no automated detection is error-free, and detection results may include false positives or miss instances of PII. You are responsible for reviewing redaction results before relying on them, and you remain solely responsible for compliance with any legal, regulatory, contractual, or ethical obligations that apply to your data, including privacy regulations and research consent requirements. Transcript Shield is a tool that assists with redaction; it is not a guarantee that a document is free of PII, and we are not liable for consequences arising from undetected or incorrectly redacted information.

Service Availability

We strive to maintain reliable access to the service but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Access may be temporarily suspended for maintenance, security, or technical reasons. We are not responsible for losses resulting from downtime, service interruptions, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Because processing occurs in your browser, service performance may also depend on your device, browser, and network environment.

Payments and Subscriptions

If you subscribe to a paid plan, you agree to pay all applicable fees. Subscription terms, billing cycles, and cancellation policies will be presented at the time of purchase. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law. We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice.

Intellectual Property

Transcript Shield and all related software, branding, design, and functionality are owned by [company name] or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the service without prior written permission.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to Transcript Shield if you violate these Terms or use the service in a way that poses risk to the service or other users. You may terminate your account at any time. Upon termination, your right to access the service will end, and any account data we hold will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Transcript content is unaffected by termination because it was never stored with us.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Transcript Shield shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or related to your use of the service, including damages arising from the disclosure of information that was not detected or redacted by the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to Transcript Shield in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If material changes are made, we will provide notice through the service or by email. Continued use of the service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
